How to Expand Digital Learning: Museum of the Rockies

Since the start of 2024, I’ve partnered with Museum of the Rockies to produce a new kind of education and outreach content. Museum of the Rockies is the largest natural history museum in the region, and makes it their responsibility to bring the world to Montana and the Northern Rockies to the world. While the education department has been investing in digital learning to expand the museum’s reach, there has been a large gap in video content to serve the museum’s mission. Through video, I’ve helped build an education brand that charms, excites, and entertains — setting up Museum of the Rockies to be a leader in digital learning.

How do you make learning more accessible . . . and fun?

Expand educational programming — to YouTube.

Fossil Fridays is one of the many online learning options at Museum of the Rockies. Streaming live on most Fridays during the school year, this class is a great way for classrooms to learn from the museum's fossil collection. But Fossil Fridays never had a permanent video online — until I collaborated with MOR's education team to create one.

Showcase the museum’s digital learning options.

The museum’s education team wanted a playful, eye-catching video for the E.L. Wiegand Digital Learning Studio to share with museum visitors. This was video premiered as an in-person installation for thousands of visitors on Montana Day.

Show visiting schools something different.

Traditionally, museum behavior guidelines for visiting schools have been shared as written documents. For this upcoming school year, Museum of the Rockies wanted to do things differently. I’m producing instructional videos for both teachers and students — here’s the video for teachers.

The playful ideas never end when working with the mad scientists in the museum’s education department. Our goal with every project is to make learning fun.
